Eureka is the world’s largest intergovernmental network of countries supporting international research, development, and innovation. The network of ministries and funding agencies, spanning 47 countries, provides companies of all sizes, universities, and research institutes with access to funding, business acceleration tools, and expert advice. This is aimed at stimulating innovation excellence and boosting economic growth, job creation, and competitiveness.
Founded in 1985 by 18 countries and the European Commission to enhance European competitiveness and productivity, Eureka has since grown beyond these geographic borders. It allows ministries and funding agencies worldwide to unite in addressing shared global challenges. To date, Eureka has supported thousands of projects, mobilising tens of billions of euro of public-private investment. These projects result in commercialised products, processes, and services that generate societal benefits and enrich lives in areas such as healthcare, sustainability, energy, and the green and digital transition.
Eureka values diversity, flexibility, innovation, and cooperation. It serves as a trusted platform for ministries and funding agencies to channel funding through a set of complementary Eureka funding programmes towards international innovation projects. Each ministry or funding agency supports organisations based in their own country. The network is unique in its readiness to support bottom-up and business-led projects with a global geographic scope.
Representatives from Eureka’s network provide tailored guidance. This can range from refining project ideas and connecting international partners, to advising on market expansion, facilitating investment matchmaking, and promoting beneficiary successes. In exchanging expertise, Eureka’s network shapes efficient programmes that support organisations at every step of their innovation journey.
International cooperation in innovation is essential to solving global challenges. Eureka, with its strong base in Europe and a growing presence around the world, helps countries and organisations achieve groundbreaking research, development, and innovation, and create lasting impact.
